The Great Lent & Holy Pascha Unit Study is a 149-page digital resource created to help Orthodox families walk the Lenten journey with intention, understanding, and peace. Designed for children ages 4–12, this study blends faith formation, learning, and family life into a meaningful daily rhythm, without adding stress to an already sacred season.
This unit study is undated, reusable year after year, and can be used by families following either the Old or New Calendar.
Over six carefully structured weeks, your family will grow in understanding of Great Lent, the Church’s services, and the path toward Pascha through:
Monday–Friday lessons designed for gentle, consistent learning
A clear introduction to the Pre-Lenten period, explaining its purpose and themes
Scripture readings and stories that deepen understanding of repentance and prayer
Lessons exploring Orthodox services, traditions, apostles, saints, and Lenten practices
A special, engaging lesson on St. Patrick, introducing his life and witness in a fun, age-appropriate way
Daily activities that encourage reflection, creativity, and engagement
Weekly crafts to reinforce themes in a hands-on way
Weekly fasting-friendly recipes to prepare and enjoy together
Weekly Troparia and Kontakia to learn and practice as a family
Each week builds upon the last, helping children gain a full, age-appropriate understanding of Great Lent and the meaning of Christ’s Resurrection.
The study concludes the day before Lazarus Saturday, allowing families to fully engage in Holy Week services at church without additional at-home lessons.
This is not a rushed or overwhelming curriculum.
It is a gentle guide meant to support the rhythm of prayer, fasting, worship, and learning during Great Lent.
